The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation has been working hard to raise funds for the benefit of credit unions; and in September, two significant events came to fruition, the Mustang Mania raffle and the 18th Annual Foundation Golf Tournament.
For the Mustang Mania raffle, the Foundation raised a total of $40,090 in net proceeds. The Foundation extends huge thanks to all those who purchased tickets. The drawing was held at the CUNA Mutual Party during the Leadership Conference in San Antonio, and the winner of the 2015 Ford Mustang was Shelli Rangel with Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit union. Rangel elected to take the cash value of the vehicle instead, and fun photos of her win will follow in the coming days, so watch for that!
For many years, the Foundation's goal for the annual golf tournament has been to raise net proceeds of $100,000; and this year, they not only reached it, they surpassed it! The 18th Annual Golf Tournament was sold out weeks before the event, and 144 players hit the links, along with 62 sponsors and cash contributors. The tournament, which preceded the Leadership Conference, raised $105,548 in net proceeds—the most money raised by the Foundation ever.
All of the funds raised go toward the Foundation's mission to carry out three primary initiatives: financial education programs for youth and adults, professional development for credit union staff and volunteers, and disaster relief for credit union staff when disaster strikes.
"I'm humbled and thrilled by the generosity of our credit unions," said Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran. "We as a Foundation could not make a difference and give back to the credit union communities without the support of credit unions and their generous leaders, employees, and members."
