Two of the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation’s top initiatives are to assist credit union professionals in achieving professional excellence and to promote financial education across the region to help adults and youth become capable of wisely managing their personal finances. After a recent grants cycle, the Foundation awarded a total of $114,346 to support those initiatives.
Forty-one credit unions in the Cornerstone region received grants for their staff training calendars or for assistance to attend a specific educational event. The Central Texas Chapter of Credit Unions and Pineywoods Chapter of Credit Unions both received grants for $2,000 each to support their professional development efforts for their local credit unions.
The Foundation is also excited to announce its assistance in funding statewide youth financial education curriculum writing efforts for Texas and Oklahoma through grants awarded this cycle. Partnerships with the Texas and Oklahoma Councils on Economic Education allow for opportunities to assist in funding curricula that is developed around state educational standards and will be available for download on the councils’ and Foundation websites.
In addition to grants awarded for professional development and REAL solutions, Border FCU received a grant to assist with their VITA site program which greatly impacts the low-income communities they serve, and FirstLight FCU received a grant to assist with the purchase of experiential learning products, such as a Reality Fair Kit and a Life Simulation Kit. These kits allow more hands-on learning opportunities for credit union staff and communities.
The Reality Fair Kit, Life Simulation Kit, and the Retirement Fair Kit are products of the National Credit Union Foundation.
